The body lift, also known as belt lipectomy or circumferential torsoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure designed to remove significant excess skin as well as fat from the torso, buttocks and thighs. This procedure can improve loose, sagging skin and uneven contours of those areas.
The body lift is generally sought by individuals who are left with lose, inelastic skin on much of the body due to childbirth, age or massive weight loss as with bariatric surgery.
The body lift is an extensive procedure which essentially combines the techniques of abdominoplasty, liposuction, the thigh lift and the buttock lift. At Aestheticon® we perform body lift surgery at one of our partner hospitals using general anesthesia. Surgical time may take anywhere from three to seven hours. In some cases it may be advisable to perform the procedure as two separate surgeries approximately four months apart, with the first operation addressing removal of the frontal tissue and the second operation targeting the back after the patient has healed. This will be discussed after a thorough examination at our clinic.
The recovery after the body lift lasts approximately two to three weeks. Surgical drains are often inserted at the incision sites and these may remain in place for a few days. Compression garments must be worn for several weeks. The results of the body lift are immediately visible and improve over time.
You have considerable skin excess on different body parts, like abdomen, chest, back, thighs or arms? This tissue excess does not respond to diet or workout? In this case you are a good candidate for a lifting procedure. This surgery is the only way to remove this excess tissue in a satisfying and long lasting way.
The best candidates for the body lift are in good physical condition with significant loose, inelastic skin on much of the body. The body lift is often sought by individuals following childbirth or massive weight loss, such as with bariatric surgery.
In essence, the body lift combines the techniques of abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), liposuction, the thigh lift and the buttock lift. It may be performed as two separate procedures several months apart. In total, surgical times may take three to seven hours under general anesthesia. During surgery, excess skin may be removed from the abdomen, buttocks and thighs, and excess fat may be removed with liposuction techniques.
As an inpatient procedure, the hospital stay is typically two to three days. Patients are ambulated form the first postoperative day onwards. Back home you can walk and go to the bathroom by yourself, but should not engage in any other activity other than just recovering. Healing time until suture removal takes 2 weeks. You can go back to your normal daily routine within 3 to 4 weeks.
The scars will be placed as inconspicuously as possible in the abdomen and back area, as well as groin area in the case of a thigh lift. This will be discussed with you during your consultation.
Post-operative complications from body lifting surgery are possible and may include bleeding, infection, seromas, and poor healing. This will be discussed with you during your consultation at our clinic.
